Privacy
Last updated: 3 July 2026
Whetū is built for students, many under 16, so we keep data collection minimal and this page honest. Whetū Labs follows the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.
What we collect
- Account details: username, email, and a securely hashed password (we can never read your actual password).
- Study data: your answers, your estimated grades, and your attempt history - so your progress works across devices.
- Payment status: which plan you’re on. Card details go straight to our payment provider; we never see or store them.
How AI marking uses your answers
When you submit an answer for marking (or ask the tutor a question), the question and your text are sent to our AI providers, which compare your answer with that question’s marking schedule and return an estimated grade and feedback. We do not send your email, password, or payment details to those providers. Your answers are used to mark your work - not to advertise to you, and we don’t sell your data to anyone.
What we don’t do
- No selling or sharing of personal data.
- No advertising trackers.
- No contact from strangers - Whetū has no social features.
Your rights
You (or your parent/caregiver) can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, correct it, or have your account and data deleted. Email us and we’ll sort it promptly.
